When looking at our map and seeing how Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama line up with each other, we decided we’d put all of these states together into one trip and stick to the gulf region. The nicest part of this is that there is minimal driving involved (compared to other trips we’ve made) and you’re still visiting 4 different states! So here’s the itinerary…
- Day 1 – Fly into the Houston International Airport (George Bush Intercontinental Airport)
- Stay overnight here in Houston for two nights
- Dinner Ideas – The Burger Joint, JAX Burgers Fries & Shakes, Katz’s
- Day 2 – Spend the day at Space Center Houston
- Stay overnight here again
- Dinner Ideas – Goodson’s Cafe, Willie’s Grill & Icehouse, Live Oak Grill

- Day 3 – Drive 0:54 to Galveston Island
- Spend the day at Schlitterbahn Waterpark
- Stay overnight here
- Dinner Ideas – The Gumbo Diner, Jimmy’s On The Pier, The Spot

- Day 4 – Drive 5:50 to New Orleans, Louisiana
- Check out Bourbon Street this evening
- Stay overnight here in New Orleans for two nights
- Dinner Ideas – Katie’s Restaurant & Bar, Port of Call, High Hat Cafe
- Day 5 – Try taking the New Orleans Hop On Hop Off Bus Tour
- Stay overnight here again
- Dinner Ideas – Rivershack Tavern, Dry Dock Cafe, The Harbor Bar & Grill

- Day 6 – Drive 1:28 to Biloxi, Mississippi
- This was one of the few times when things didn’t go as we originally planned on one of our trips. Our goal for this day was to simply spend the day at Biloxi Beach, however, a pretty substantial rain storm blew in and we had to leave the beach and go to our “backup plan.” So it’s always a good idea to spend some time planning a backup plan on days when you have outdoor activities scheduled. Indoor activities (where you don’t need a reservation ahead of time) are key in these situations. Places like museums, aquariums, and even escape rooms offer some great alternative choices. On this trip, we ended up having a blast just a couple miles away from the beach at the Escape This (escape rooms).
- Stay overnight here
- Dinner Ideas – The Lady May, Big Easy Diner, The Fillin’ Station, The Yard Milkshake Bar

- Day 7 – Drive 1:55 to Orange Beach, Alabama
- Try going sailing with Orange Beach Sailing Charters… WE ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! Both of our boys got the chance to sail the boat, and we also had a couple of dolphins show up beside us for a bit!
- Stay overnight here
- Dinner Ideas – Live Bait, Sassy Bass Amazin’ Grill, Avenue Pub, Del’s Ice Cream

- Day 8 – Drive 1:05 and Fly home out of Mobile International Airport
